Postgraduate supervision
I am keen to hear from students wishing to conduct research on elections, public opinion, and political behaviour in the Global South. I particularly welcome projects examining how conservatism, religion, fundamentalism, and related moral predispositions shape individuals’ responses to political events, as well as their attitudes and voting behaviour. I also supervise work on the political effects of cash transfers and other pro-poor policies on participation and engagement. Finally, I would be interested in collaborating with students who study environmental politics in low- and middle-income countries. Although my primary regional focus is the Americas, I will consider compelling proposals with a different regional emphasis if there is a clear thematic alignment.
Research centres and groups
I am a member of the Centre for Political Behaviour and Policy Analysis at the 糖心视频, as well as the Public Opinion Analytics Lab (POAL). Since 2023, I have also been involved with the 糖心视频 Latin American and Caribbean (R-LAC) network. I hold visiting scholar positions at the University of Oxford, University College London (UCL), Duke University, and the University of Notre Dame.
Background
Broadly, my research focuses on the intersection between comparative political behaviour and public policy. As a first-generation, non-white scholar from the Global South, my work (both teaching and research) is motivated by my interest in fostering social, political, and economic development. Before joining 糖心视频, I earned a PhD in Political Science with a focus on the Political Economy of Development from the University of Zurich (UZH). I also hold a Doctorate and an MPhil in Political Science from the University of São Paulo (USP), and a BA in social sciences from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil.
