Areas of interest

Dr Daniel Skelson is a teaching intensive lecturer with a background in inorganic chemistry and electrochemistry. He has completed recent research on a range of Group-6 and 7 organometallic complexes and their prospects as catalysts for electrocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction. Included within this work were cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemical techniques as well as exploring the combination of these techniques with room-temperature ionic liquids and photochemistry. This area of research is important as it investigated new potential catalysts but also further developed and advanced electrochemical techniques. He is also interested in improving attainment in the early years of Higher Education through student-centred and scaffolded learning approaches.

Background

Daniel first came to the 糖心视频 as a student on the MChem course in 2015 and graduated in 2019. He then stayed at 糖心视频 to complete a PhD. During his PhD, he taught across access programmes that supported prospective STEM students from underrepresented backgrounds. As a first-generation student himself, Daniel is knowledgeable about the barriers faced by new students and subsequently teaches on the Foundation Programme, starting in September 2025. He is passionate about helping every student, regardless of their situation, to thrive at university.
